Five on Friday: Random Thoughts

T.G.I.F.  Y’all.  The past few weeks have about done me in and I’m so excited to see the weekend, I can’t even stand it.   I’m a little brain-dead these days, so I thought we’d do a fun Five on Friday of random thoughts and things that I’m enjoying lately.  Ready??

1.  Deep South DetailsI feel like I’ve mentioned these gals before, but if so blame on menopausal forgetfulness!  I found this podcast last fall and fell in love with these Southern ladies that are so down to earth and entertaining.  Funny, informative, self-deprecating and all things Southern — including SEC football — is the tone of their podcast.  I feel like I’m at coffee with two good friends when I listen.  THAT’s a win. 🙂

2.  The Dollar section at Target.  Y’all.  I can usually breeze right by, especially if I’m in a hurry, but the past few weeks it’s been packed with garden items and all manner of pretty paper goods.  And I’m a sucker for pretty paper goods… and these green glass bottles.

3.  Great Lash mascara.  I don’t know why I feel I should try more expensive brands and products, but I do.  And yet, I always come back to the old favorites.  If it ain’t broke, don’t fit it, right?  I’m all about this waterproof mascara again… doesn’t flake into my eyes or run when I’m having a teary day (did I mention I’m menopausal??  and under stress??).

4. Fresh flowers make everything better.
I pulled together a post for Mohawk Homescapes blog this week on simple flower arranging for spring and found myself in love with fresh flowers all over again.

If you follow me on Instagram, you might have spied these beauties my BFF sent me from Farmgirl Flowers… love their business model, their vision, AND their bouquets!

5.  Reflections on Lent.  This year I resolved to be offline after 6pm as part of my Lenten discipline.  I have to say it was a bit difficult at first, but it was so worth it.  Getting a school up and running is no small feat, but as other entrepreneurs would tell you, folks expect you to be at their beck and call at all hours.  And it was taking a toll.  Making myself unplug intentionally for a set period of time was a total win.  In fact, it’s carried over now that we’re past Lent.  I might pop onto Instagram or Facebook briefly in the evenings for fun, but you won’t find me digging into emails.  I’ve figured out that I don’t get any earth-shattering emails that can’t wait til morning.

And so those are my ramblings for this Friday!  We’re expecting nice weather so I’m hoping to tackle my front porch this weekend.  We’ll see how it goes. 🙂  What are your plans??

  1. A great idea about the no social media/emails after 6pm….I remember that it was not too long ago that we did not have IG, FB, etc….After 6pm, it is a wonderful thing to have some face to face time with our family and not screen time….Those flowers are gorgeous!!!
