It’s the Little Things (and NYC Recap)

The weekend already?  Jeez, time flies in the summertime… Thursday I journeyed down IKEA with my daughter to do some apartment shopping for her.   That place never ceases to amaze me, and I shopped IKEA in Northern Virginia back in 1989 for MY first apartment!  It was pretty cool then and it’s even more so now… so of course I picked up a few little things for me, too. 🙂

Like this $4 pillow cover for an insert I already had…

A little mid-summer refresher for the big brown beast of a sofa in the family room!

And these fun little things…

Who doesn’t love colorful pens?   New dishtowels? And I’ve got something in mind for these HEMMA light kits.  Remember my DIY pendant light in my dining room?

Stay tuned…

I fluffing my booth today, so I’ll be sharing soon a couple of projects that are making appearances there!

A quick recap of fun stuff we did in NYC last weekend… and if you follow me on Instagram, you saw a few peeks. 🙂  We tried out this new-to-us haunt in Tribeca called The Bubble Lounge — what fun!  Saturday enjoyed a leisurely lunch at a little French bistro then shopped a few of my favorite boutiques like Taroo and Pookie & Sebastian.  Believe it or now, you CAN shop NYC reasonably!  Saturday night we saw this amazing play…

Incredibly well-written and brilliantly acted by Judith Light and Jessica Hecht, among others.  It’s running until July 28th, so if you’re in the City before then I highly recommend it.  Click HERE for more info.

On Sunday we shopped Zara on Lexington Ave (always find something fun there) and then headed to 54 Below for dinner and a cabaret show performed by Matthew Morrison from Glee.  You may remember this was the day news broke of Cory Monteith’s untimely death, so we weren’t even sure the show would go on.  But being the consummate professional, Matthew Morrison not only performed, dedicating the show to his friend and co-star, but he completely captivated all of us lucky enough to be in the room that evening.  To be a mere 8 feet from such talent was a thrill.  Easily one of my favorite experiences ever in NYC.  You can read about 54 Below HERE.

My boy returns from Spain on Sunday and I am ready for him to be home.  The Big Kids are all working and busy and not home much, so I’ve gotten a little taste of an Empty Nest.  Not quite ready for that. 🙁

I hope the sun is shining where you are friends!  Enjoy the weekend…

  1. Glad you had a great time in NYC and Ikea…it is hard at first being an empty nester…but we filled our time with work and traveling to our son’s college soccer games…a quiet house if both hard and then easy to get used to…have a great weekend!

  2. What fun. I love the city and everything it offers…chaos and all.

  3. I have not been to Ikea in a long time, I should go. Yeah, I think I want too. Wonder if it’s gonna be cloudy all day today? Wonder if my daughters want to go? Thanks for the idea!
