My Word of the Year

Good day and Happy New Year!

Today is the first day I can truly let my wheels down, with house guests departed and no plans on the calendar until Monday’s National Championship Game (War Eagle!).

What a lovely feeling…

I’ll be slowly tackling the piles on my desk, catching up on emails and blogs, and — in general — relaxing.  Woo hoo!

I’ve been contemplating what my Word of the Year would be for 2014 for a couple of weeks now.  Last year, I wavered between “Joy” and “Discernment”.  And in looking back over the year our family had in 2013, I was seeking Joy more often than Discernment.   And I learned that you have to choose Joy in all circumstances.  I think I did pretty well considering…

This year’s Word presented itself quickly … and in multiple ways… once I opened my mind and heart to the possibilities.

Peace WOTY

Suddenly, everywhere I looked PEACE was The Word.

Isaiah 26_3

Last year was a turbulent one for me and mine.

This year, I’m seeking peace.

And I love that this Isaiah verse reminds me that if I keep my mind steadfast — actively and intentionally keep it steadfast — God’s “perfect peace” can be mine.

In other words, I have work I must do.

Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians gives this advice that speaks to me, too, in how I want this New Year to look…

Make it your ambition and definitely endeavor to live quietly and peacefully, to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands.

1 Thessalonians 4:11

So I’m taking some quiet time over the next few days to refocus my heart and mind.

Peace 2014

I’ve much to share in the weeks ahead… new DIY projects, more favorite recipes, some larger goals and projects for my home, and some of my favorite books.  I feel so blessed to have this small space to muse about and share things I love.  And I’m so thankful for each and every reader, those of you that comment and those of you that read and quietly exit.

I wish many blessings for you and yours in 2014!

And I’d love for you to share if you have a Word for your New Year, or a resolution or goal you’d like to put out there.

Enjoy your weekend, everyone!

  1. that is a great word choice!!! i only wish the whole world would choose it.

  2. Peace. Just reading and saying it helps me relax a little. I can’t wait to see what 2014 has for the both of us. My word for the year is Believe. Believing God is who He says he is, Believing He will do what He says and Believing I am who He says I am. Thank you for inspiring me to tap into my creative juices, decorating more and loving my home more. Will be sending you pictures soon of Christmas decorations.

  3. What a great choice, Heidi! I hope you find lots of peace in 2014! The word Cherish has been striking a cord with me lately, and I want to focus on cherishing everyone in my life, by providing as much love and support as I can. 🙂

  4. I wish you great “peace” in the coming year…My word?…”Live”…Soon after the death of my dear, dear, lifelong friend, I spoke to her hubby (that I have also known since Jr. High)..I told him that there are some days when I miss her so much that I just do not know what to do…he answered me in one word, “Live”…so that is my word for the year…to “live” and be happy when you awake and see the sun…”live” to be there for your family and friends in need…”live” to rejoice all the blessings that you have. Happy New Year Heidi!

  5. Good luck finding your peace. I’ve seen so many wonderful words for 2014, and I have yet to choose mine. Thanks for helping me be inspired to keep thinking about it.
