Holiday Treat: Reindeer Food

It's Friday, friends, and the clock is ticking toward Christmas!  This week, in addition to some major re-entry issues after NYC, I made our traditional Reindeer Food treat that we give to friends and neighbors during the holidays. I'm always on the hunt for cute containers to package it.  These were all picked up on clearance after last Christmas.  Do you spy the treat spread out on the counter behind while it hardens?  This is the recipe … [Read more...]

This ‘n That Friday

What a week.  All I can say is T.G.I.F.  My Little Crazies at school have been exactly that -- CRAZY.  I'm not sure what it is about this group, but my assistant and I have had a hard time reining them in.  Makes for some very loooooong days and a lot of evenings of being completely spent and brain-dead.  Not good for creative juices!  It's pretty clear most of my creativity will have to happen on the weekends this year! This weekend I'm … [Read more...]

The Home Tour

Hello, friends!  I'm immersed in wrangling teaching my new crop of 4 year olds this week.  This should be a year full of interesting challenges behaviorally and developmentally... please pray that I'll have the wisdom and patience to tackle what lies ahead! My relaxing beach weekend seems really far away now... Ah, such is life! But I've also spent a little time putting together the beginnings of a Home Tour for you!  I've added a … [Read more...]

Progress on the To-Do’s & Boredom Buster Bags

You kind of get two posts in one today, in the effort to hold myself accountable for my To-Do List.   It was growing fangs (my To Do List, that is) over the weekend and all I wanted to do was sit on my back deck with a stack of magazines and enjoy the breezes.  But I battled through and with the help of My Teens we got quite a bit done.  Progress!! We spent a good bit of time taming the ivy that was taking over the front beds and providing … [Read more...]

Preschool Cupcakes and Coffee with Mom…

Last week we celebrated our preschoolers' moms with a Cupcakes and Coffee spread.  This event is a lot of work, but the kids and the moms love it so much, I always feel that it is completely worth it!   So I thought you might enjoy a sneak peek of my "other" job... The tables are decorated with the children's gifts for mom:  scrapbooks of art collected over the entire year!  We save one project each month, then mount them and compile … [Read more...]

Mardi Gras Fun {Easy Kid’s DIY}

Well, you can take the girl out of New Orleans, but you can't take New Orleans out of the girl... One of my favorite lessons to do with my class is on Mardi Gras Day or Fat Tuesday (try telling a bunch of 4 and 5 year olds that today is Fat Tuesday and you can imagine the giggles that ensue!).  I break the day and traditions down to a 4-year-old level and then we enjoy a Mardi Gras treat (usually King Cake). This year I decided to add in an … [Read more...]

Easy Peasy Snowflake Ornament

Happy Friday, friends!  Just in case you're looking to occupy the kids this weekend, today I'm sharing an easy kid-friendly DIY Christmas ornament.  I've done this for several years with my 4 year olds and they adorn the school trees surrounding our Winter Wonderland activities. All you need for this project is silver or sparkly white pipe cleaners, letter beads that spell your child's name, other assorted beads (we use white, clear, … [Read more...]

Gratitude Tree {Easy Fall DIY}

How about a super simple DIY decor project you can rock for little to no money? I've seen these trees in several places around blogland (most recently by Cassie at Hi, Sugarplum!).  They're usually called "Thankful trees," but I've done gratitude "exercises" with my preschoolers for years, and this seemed the perfect fit from the day I first spotted it. Earlier this week, I brought in a flower bucket full of branches out of my yard.   You … [Read more...]

{A} is for Apple :)… Apple Pizza Recipe

Happy Friday and Happy Fall, y'all! For some reason this week seemed odd and off a bit to me... barometric pressure? the moon?  onset of the autumnal equinox?  Not sure, but we made it to the end-- woo hoo! If you've been a reader for a while, you know that my "day" job is a preschool teacher, which means I get to finger paint, sing, act silly, memorize Bible verses, teach phonics, and come up with all kinds of fun projects to keep my 4 year … [Read more...]
