Happy Monday & Guest Room Progress

Hi-ho, hi-ho, it’s back to work I go…Time sure flies when you’re having fun and I did enjoy myself over Spring Break last week.

I want to thank you all for your sweet comments and prayers as we marked one year since losing Kaely.  I’m not going to lie, I was very emotional this weekend.  I still wrestle with fear every time my own children walk out the door.  I want to put them all in a bubble where they’ll be forever safe from the choices of others.  But God is so good in the lessons and messages he gives when our hearts are open to Him.   Kaely was remembered and honored in many beautiful ways and by so many loving people.  Though sad, I am at peace today.

Saturday was such a lovely blue skies day here and after much time spent outside enjoying it and working in the yard, I got down to business with the twin beds in the guest room.

I mixed one cup of water with a splash of Annie Sloan Old White.   Using a paint rag, I wiped the mixture all over the head board, side rails and foot board.  I let it dry and … whomp whomp whomp.

Though it did tone down the honey pine, it was waaayyyy too light.

So I mixed some more Old White into the water, and this time used a paint brush first, going back over it with a rag.

After the second pass, here’s what I have.

Close, but still not quite there.

I do have to say that I’ve let them sit and dry thoroughly since Saturday evening, and the finish looks a little whiter now than in this last pic.

My plan is to mix in a little more Old White and do a third coat using the same technique and see if that does the trick.  I do like that the grain of the wood and the knots are showing through and I want to maintain some of that.   But if pass #3 with a more saturated mix doesn’t get there, I probably will just add a light coat of paint on and distress it.  We’ll see. 🙂

It’s a process, people!

Friday, I moved my little armoire up to the booth and spent about 3 hours zhushing the space… nice to have a fresh look!

I hope she finds a new home soon!

In other news, have you seen the May issue of Country Living??  Holy cow, I think I’ve dog-earred every other page of this issue.  Lots of great ideas and inspiration…

I hope your week is off to a great start!  Notice I didn’t mention a thing about it being Tax Day… :-).  We’re camping out  on happy stuff whenever possible.
