My Favorite Antique Pieces

A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post for Mohawk Homescapes about incorporating antique accents into your decor.  And in the midst of my work on that post, I realized how many wonderful antique pieces I have in my own home.    And so I thought I'd share my favorites with you... This is my all time favorite -- my grandmother's buffet that sits in my dining room.  And one of the reasons it's my favorite is that she wrote me a letter shortly … [Read more...]

DIY Peace Watercolor

Apparently I'm really taking my personal goal to paint more this year to heart. :)  I haven't been able to put away my watercolors lately and I have so many ideas for various projects involving watercolors I have started a list in my journal. Quite honestly?  It's therapeutic.  And I don't need good weather (because Lord knows THAT's in short supply!).  And it doesn't require sanding or heavy lifting.  Just a seat at my kitchen table and a cup … [Read more...]

In Case You Missed It {February}…

After all the stress and angst of last week, God granted me a wonderful weekend of peace!  I was so blessed to spend Saturday with a dear friend, watching her daughter (my god daughter) play in a volleyball tournament and catching up.  Don't you love it when it's as if no time has passed since you last saw one another?  Sunday was warm and lovely and after church I spent a few hours in my yard, clipping, raking, and bagging debris from the … [Read more...]

A Gift of {in}Mercy

One of my favorite things I did last fall was participate in (in)Mercy, the (in)courage project to raise funds for and awareness of the important, life-saving work of Mercy House Kenya.  It was amazing to watch God show up as YOU were His hands and feet!  We far exceeded our fund-raising goals and the good work over there is growing by leaps and bounds. The wonderful folks at (in)courage sent me a glorious "thank you" in the form of products … [Read more...]

October Thoughts and September in Review

Ah, at last... October!  Cooler days, chilly evenings, the ever-so-slow turning of the leaves here in the South... I am so ready for the pause that is October.  August and September are the hectic back-to-school scurry and adjustments.  November is the steady uptick in the schedule and way-too-soon holiday prep.  But October? Maybe because August and September have left me wrung out and a bit broken, but October feels like a chance to … [Read more...]

The Mom Cave {Home Tour}

Happy Friday!  This week I shared a post at Mohawk Homescapes about a room of one's own (don't we all need one?).   It was the perfect opportunity for me to update photos of my Mom Cave, so I thought I'd share with you all today.  This space went from crowded/chaotic Grand Central Station home office to my personal oasis that I occasionally share. :) And this would be my husband's little space for when he's working … [Read more...]

Thrifted TV Stand Makeover

You know those chunky TV stands you see in all the thrift stores??  Most of us have crossed over to flat screens or wall-mounted TVs making those sad pieces look like the plump boy in the corner at the 7th grade dance. I was in search of a smallish bookcase for a corner of my Mom Cave when I stumbled upon this neglected guy... The size was right, even though he weighs a ton, so I thought I could make him a little more suave to fit into my … [Read more...]

Home Goals 2013 {Finally!}

Ok, I know January is almost over, but it took me several weeks to really refine my home goals.  And they're not really refined.  I'm afraid I've set some lofty goals for the home, but maybe this will be my year to get a lot accomplished. :-)   Knowing me, there will be a fair amount of DIY and other decor distractions along the way, so we'll see! And here they are, in no particular order... Add drapes to the family room … [Read more...]

HomeGoods Goodies :-)

Ok, as promised... my HomeGoods goodies from the HomeGoods party on Saturday! This AMAZING lamp for the Mom Cave!!  I love the little bit of sparkle in the shade... little glam for my space!  And can you beat $39 for an awesome lamp?  Didn't think so. :) You know I have two teenage boys, right?  'Nuff said. And did you know HomeGoods has gift wrap??  Hello!! How cute is this houndstooth paper?  For $2.99?  I'll be getting … [Read more...]

How’d I do? Home Goals for 2012…

I had some ambitious home goals for 2012... I actually chuckled when I looked back at this post!  They were lofty for sure, but I think I did pretty well... I'll let YOU be the judge! 2012 Goal #1:  Finish the Mom Cave. Well, I got close. And over all I'm pleased... The final projects will be detailed in my goals for 2013... coming SOON! 2012 Home Goal #2: Finish refreshing the family room. Again, I'm … [Read more...]
