Spring Mantel Tweaks… I Couldn’t Resist

Howdy hoo, y’all — another busy week rocking and rolling around here!  So far this week we’ve celebrated two birthdays in my preschool class, Earth Day plus caterpillars (!), and then yesterday a puppet show.  I’m whipped by 2pm every day!

I’m still working away on the guest room, but I took a few minutes to freshen up my spring mantel since Easter is now behind us…

It all started with a quick trip to “Junk Day” at the Woodstock Market last Saturday morning… I didn’t intend to go, but the urge to thrift got the best of me.

So I brought home these babies…

Once I had them home, I had the urge to wrap twine around them and plop a bunch of daisies into them.   Not sure why… 🙂

I can’t see a bunch of daisies without remembering that scene between Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks in You’ve Got Mail (one of my all-time favorite movies)… you know, when he brings her a bunch of daisies to make amends for driving her little indie bookstore out of business and she’s got a terrible cold.  In her cold medicine induced fog she says, “I’ve always loved daisies… they’re so… friendly.”

My mantel now looks friendly, no?

And I love the colors in this map of the South that I scored from Decor Steals about a year ago… it’s been around in my home, but I like the distressed frame against my very glam mirror.

And I love that it includes Texas in the South, because though us Texans are first and foremost Texans, we also consider ourselves Southern.

I’m liking this new look … think I’ll keep it for a bit. 🙂

The very cool Crown Imperial mason jar was an afterthought… the gal threw it in with the other three for free.

Don’t you love the patina on the lid?

My husband enjoys his Crown Royal, so I thought I could do something fun with this for him…

and I just found one on eBay for $39 so I guess I scored! 🙂

One last look at my mantel…

So what about it?  Have you tweaked yours since Easter?

Enjoy the day!
