Ugly Duckling Dining Room No More! {Blogging Without Borders}

I am sooo excited to share my Ugly Duckling Dining Room makeover with you!!  This has been a project of stops and starts, but I am thrilled with the end result.   I had to think outside the box AND try things  I’d never done before…  a challenge in every way!  But I think you’ll agree that the payoff is huge… and now I will have a fresh and FINISHED dining room for the holidays!

Before I get to the big reveal, let me remind you where we started… {I’m channeling Genevieve Gorder here, people}…

And now, when I walk in my front door, or come down my stairs, I’m greeted by this…

Sorry for a bit of glare, but I’m giddy with all the light that floods in now!!

I could’ve put the camera on automatic, I suppose…

But I was so busy playing…

And enjoying…

This space is now like a refreshing pause in our crazy household, not the dumping ground it was before.

Let’s see…

  1. Repaint… CHECK!  Love the color.
  2. Window treatments… CHECK!  So long blinds, hello drapes.
  3. Artwork… CHECK!  One DIY Baby Spoon Display, one One Kings Lane chippy architectural mirror, a silver platter wall, and a relocated wedding photo.
  4. Lighting solution… CHECK!  Updated lamps and shades, and one over head fixture.
  5. Redo secretary… CHECK!  She is one lovely lady now.

I call this room MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!  I will be sharing tutorials and details of the room makeover in the weeks ahead, so stay tuned!

Here she is one last time, because I can’t resist!

  2. LOVE IT! Those panels are gorgeous, the new light fixture is AWESOME, and you have done a great job with all your accessories. I’ll be looking for the tutorials.

  7. Awesome! My daughter has to play the piano in the garage, and while I’m probably the only one around who does yard work to beautiful music, she would love to serenade me in the dining room, or your newly redecorated one.

    ~Bliss~

  8. LOVE! Especially… 1) Drapes! 2) Portrait of you and Jay above the piano! and 3) Overhead lighting fixture. Can’t wait to hear how that went in. I’m inspired, we have Thanksgiving in Ohio, but I’m really going to make an effort to update mine by Christmas. Nice job my friend.

  9. It is definitely not an ugly duckling any more! I think the drapes are my favorite. But the paint color is beautiful too. Such a huge difference!! Congratulations on the beautiful room!

  13. It’s so, so pretty now! I mean, it had potential before, but it’s all primped now. Does that make sense? Today was my daughter’s first day of kindergarten so I’m a combo of excited/nervous/happy/elated/in shock:)

    Love the curtains too!

    Jessica
