Woo hoo!! The twin beds are done and I’m so pleased with how they turned out! If you remember, I had done two coats of a white wash using Annie Sloan Old White and the finish was still too faint. I was striving for that balance of white tone but with some of the wood grain showing through.
On my third try, I made the white wash with a heavier dose of paint and let it sit for a minute before wiping it off. Success! I ended up with this look…
Don’t pay any attention to that weird gray dot in the upper left quadrant, but here you can see some of the grain showing through. Yay!
I then distressed the edges and corners a bit and applied a thin coat of clear wax. I love how the wax brings out the grain!
I just LOVE it. It was worth working for.
I had my teenage muscle slash indentured servants bring up the twin mattresses from the basement and here we are now…
It’s hard to take head on shot of the beds because the room’s small… I’m sure if I played with my camera settings I could get a better one, but I’ll add that to my “someday” list. 🙂
Here’s a better look from the doorway…
See my little inspiration bench peeking out? I can’t wait to add bedding, window treatments, art work, and lighting to bring this space together. Remember my clock is ticking big-time with graduation a mere 4.5 weeks away. But in a crazy way, I feel like the “big stuff” is done. The rest is just fluffing out the space… my favorite part!
Yesterday I posted over at Mohawk Homescapes about eco-friendly decorating for Earth Day… I’d love it if you’d check it out and add any ideas you may have in the comments!
Speaking of Earth Day, my class of Little Peeps got a surprise when I brought in these…
Oh, my gosh, if you’ve never “grown” butterflies with your children or grandchildren, this is a MUST DO! It’s sooo much fun to watch the process and the kids learn every step of the way. I order mine from InsectLore.com and highly recommend them! I’ll keep you posted on their progress. 🙂
Hope your week is off to great start!!
they ook very beachy and light! can’t wait to see the room come together!
Love the brightness of the room, Heidi!
The beds look great Heidi and I can’t wait to see what you do with the rest of the room!
It’s nice to see someone start a project and finish it in a reasonable amount of time. Not that I would be guilty of taking forever on my projects….
Bliss
The beds look great!…and I never knew you could grow butterflies…really need to do that!!
The beds look fabulous Heidi! I can’t wait to see the whole room put together! Have a great week!Angiexo
Ooh Weston would LOVE to grow butterflies! Need to look into ordering, thanks for the tip! Love how the guest room is coming along!
They look fabulous, Heidi! I’ve had a can of ASCP sitting here for months now and really do need to crack it open and get painting already!!!
I’d love to do the butterfly growing thing, but my daughter is freaked out by them! I blame that “wormy” Sponge Bob episode …
Have a fabulous weekend!
🙂 Linda
