I Can’t Resist: Oriental Rugs in the Kitchen

Hey there, friends!  It’s been a busy week for Legacy and RAIN RAIN RAIN for days, so a painting project I’d hoped to share isn’t quite share-able today.  BUT… I did want to share a design idea I just can’t quit these days…  oriental rugs in the kitchen.

I was first intrigued with this a few years back when I spotted this image on Joan’s blog for the love of a house…

Which, by the way, if you don’t follow her blog — do it!  And you’ll want to spend some time reading through her archives and the story of their New Hampshire farmhouse.  Charming.

Anyway, if your kitchen is like mine rugs take a beating.  I’ve blown through several different inexpensive rugs over the years.  And it dawned on me recently that a well made oriental rug would most likely have more staying power — at least for us.  One I can spot clean as needed, but the pattern would probably disguise drips and so forth, and that could stand a good cleaning periodically.

As it happened, once I started that thought process, I was suddenly spotting this design idea in magazines, on Instagram, and on Pinterest.  I am probably behind the curve — or the trend? — but the more of this I see, the more I am finding it hard to resist. 🙂

I find myself especially drawn to the slightly worn and faded rugs…  And though it’s not really in my budget right now, as I look to replace our current kitchen rug, I can’t help shopping vintage kilim and oriental rugs.  I mean, a girl can dream right?

Have a great day, y’all!
