Time sure flies when you’re having fun!! It’s hard for me to believe I started my decor blog two years ago… I have a personal blog that’s been in place for a while and had an idea to start a decor blog that would complement my Willow House website and give me greater flexibility in content, posting, and interaction with my readers. Woo hoo!! Look at us now! I love this little space I’ve carved out with our awesome new look (thanks Aimee at byAimee.com!) and variety of content. But the best part about this little ‘ole blog has to be the marvelous people — readers, designers, Willow House customers, bloggers, encouragers — that have popped in, browsed, read, commented, and inspired me to keep inspiring you on your journey to make your house a home. Thank you!!
I love that I continue to learn (sometimes unwillingly!) about this big blogosphere and the world of social media and connecting with other. I’m a life-long learner — it drives me to discover and try to learn new things. What challenges me is keeping up with how fast things (and technology} change and sometimes having to learn a bunch of new stuff before I’ve mastered what I was working on before (hello, SEO!). Another challenge is balancing all of this out with my “real” job and my family, who sometimes need me more than what’s convenient (can you say teenagers/blended family?).
That being said, I wouldn’t have it any other way. No two days are the same in my world (fondly known as Heidiopia). I think that’s what God intended for me in the here and the now.
Decor & More is a fledgling space and I make new connections and friends here every day. And my new friend Karianne threw down the gauntlet earlier this week. Since I’m not one to shirk from a challenge, I’ve risen to the occasion and have made a few goals for this little blog (and hence, myself). How timely is her challenge? What better time to through where you want to go with your blog then on your blogiversary?? 🙂

So, here goes… in no particular order.
- I want to attend a blogger conference. This idea has been mulling around in my head for over a year. In fact, I signed up for Bloggy Boot Camp last fall and had to bow out due to family obligations. This year, I’m pulling the trigger on Haven, right here in my own back yard. I’ve already cleared my calendar (much easier to do in the summertime) and can’t wait for the new information/friends/insight that will be coming my way. Care to join me??
- I want to attract some advertisers– ones that are in keeping with my content and philosophy. I would love for Decor & More to become self-supporting, but I have no idea how to get there.
- Have guest posters!! I see this on all of my favorite blogs and for some reason I struggle with asking. After all, my space is quite small and these bloggers blow me away with their DIY, writing, and design talents. Lack of confidence is not something I routinely wrestle with, but every so often, its nasty little self rears its head.
- More Before/After features… of course, this means I actually have to finish what I start. Lordy, lordy. And that goes back to my goals for 2012 which are largely to finish in progress projects.
One of the beauties of blogging is that there’s no real pressure where I am now. I know that will change as I continue to grow — I’m a pleaser at heart and want my readers (you!) to be happy with what you find here. But I’m never content to camp out in safe places for too long, sooo… onward!!

Jealous! Wish I could be going to Haven! Maybe next year. Those are great goals. If you ever want to blog swap or would like me to guest post I would love to.
I would love to go to a blogger conference! It is hard to balance everything at times I wish there was more time in the day~

I have a blog review hop going on at my blog, if you’d like to join! You go and review 2 blogs anonymously and then 2 bloggers anonymously review your blog. It will give you some ideas as far as your blog layout and functionality, etc. Come on over!
I like finishing up projects already started. Now, does that include projects I want to do for which I have the materials? 🙂
Hi Heidi,
I’m hopping around to all the blogs linked to the “grow up party” checking out new blogs and what the goals are {it was a head scratcher for me to figure out my own goals to post}. I so relate to what you said, especially the need to finish what you start … a recent post of mine is called “Stop Starting and Start Finishing”. {hehe} I’m your newest follower and look forward to reading about your completed projects!

Those are great goals! Before/after’s are my favorite!
Wonderful thoughts … a blogger conference? Wow, I hadn’t even thought of that.
I’ll miss you at Haven this year (still nursing so I’m attached to the baby), but maybe next year? You should ask the tribe for guest posts, it seems like a great way to ask without fear of being turned down.
Sounds like you have all your goals set and ready to accomplish them full steam ahead…I too am going to Haven…Hope to meet you there!!!
Love your goals. Remember to please yourself and you’ll please others (or at least the ones that matter)! I see great things ahead for you and can’t wait to see more! Of course I’m Linky following you too.

I’ve read a few of these “blog growing up” posts, and i think we all have similiar goals, i’m glad i’m not alone!
This was a great post! Stop by for a blog visit I’m celebrating my blogiversary today with a giveaway. I’m your newest follower!
Hello Heidi, nice to meet you! You have some great goals laid out…linky following and looking forward to seeing them happen for you. Heading over to your post on Houzz…I love that site also!
Hi! I’m here through the linky party, and I will be at Haven!
I’m your newest follower from the blog hop I look forward to reading about your decorating adventures
Heidi,
Where to begin….so much to say and such a tiny space to write in 🙂
(1) I love your new look. So professional. It’s like your blog went to a fancy spa in California 🙂
(2) I love your goals. Asking guest posters is brilliant. (And Jessica is right….the tribe is an awesome place to start).
(3) We are going to rock the house at Haven….so get ready!
Have an awesome and totally blessed day, my friend.
karianne
Perfect goals – and I bet once you ask, you’ll find you won’t have any trouble at all finding people who would love to guest post on your blog. 🙂
Oh — I can so relate to having to actually finish what I start! I have lots of Before pictures, and quite a few In Progress shots — but those elusive Afters –. Great goals!
I love the goals…can totally relate to so many of the emotions you express, and agree, once you ask guest posters will be abundant.
And I really want to do the conference thing too!

I love your goals! Be warned, I recently learned that blog conferences are like heroin. Once you have a taste for it, you start feverishly looking for your next fix! Okay, so I have no clue if that’s what heroin is like, but it sounded good. LOL I just went to my first and now my second will be BBC in St. Louis and I’m looking past that one already!
I will definitely get back as I start to do more DIY and decorating projects!
I’m so excited that your going to Haven! I wanted to but it doesn’t seem to be in the cards for this year. I love your enthusiasm. I’ve been wanting to make changes myself this year. I seem to be a whole lot confused with the technical side of blogging. I want a mentor who can come over to my house and sit side-by-side with me and explain everything I want to know and guide me. That’s not too much to ask, is it? LOL.
Thanks for inspiring all of us. XO…Tracy @ Cotton Pickin Cute
yay- i will be at haven!!!! can’t wait to meet you!
and ithink these are great goals- and i am happy to guest for you if you ever want! 🙂
Happy two year blogiversary! And what a great group of goals you’ve got. I think I have many of the same… including featuring lots of fun projects. And of course attending Haven- we will finally get to meet! Woot woot! : )
I have an appreciation for being nervous about asking others to guest post, but I made the leap and it paid off. It’s not as scary as it might seem.
I soooo wish I was going to Haven. It will happen at some point. So I will live vicariously through you. No pressure. 😉

Heidi, great post. Wow, you are doing a lot and have great goals. I know finding time to do everything is hard. We all struggle with that. Have fun at Haven!
Congrats on your anniversary. Your blog looks wonderful. We newbies just have to hang in there. I don’t know when you consider yourself seasoned.
