Sheet Music Canvases… the Pass It On Project

I teased y’all the other day with my Pass It On Project. 🙂

It evolved over time and provided a little creative therapy for me in the process.

I’ve been wanting to do a sheet music project for quite some time — and have probably pinned a dozen or so to try.  About a year ago, I scored two books of vintage sheet music from Woodstock Antiques and this project seemed the perfect one to use a bit of it.

Sheet music is both graphic and ethereal at the same time, don’t you think?

I started with small canvases I found on sale at Michaels and gave them a feathery coat of creamy paint.  This was a sample I’d picked up for my kitchen but decided not to use because it was too warm.  But I figured it was the perfect back drop for my yellowed music pages… plus I liked the idea of using something I already had.

Though I covered the canvases completely, I left the brush strokes evident… because I like that not-quite-finished feel.

Once that had dried completely, I broke out the Modge Podge and adhered the sheet music to the canvas.

This step was trickier than I thought!

They all got a good coat of Modge Podge on top, too.

I then gave them all a wash of the background paint watered down, just to tone down the graphics a tad.

This was when the wrestling began… 🙂

My mind can be a dangerous place sometimes.

But I ultimately decided that simple was best.  So I broke out my stencil and black paint.

My favorite motif. 🙂  Look familiar?

I love the way the black pops against the music.

The finished project… I’m in love with how this turned out.  I’ll be making more of these. 🙂

But these lovelies…

Are headed to my sweet friends Megan and Lisa, who have been infinitely supportive of me and this little ‘ole blog.

And that, my friends, is my Pass It On project.  Sharing a little Decor & More love…
