DIY Monogram Photo Collage

I had one of those fun “mom” moments over the weekend when my college girl Erin sent me a pic of her latest craft project for her apartment.  I guess that apple didn’t fall far from the tree!  I loved it so much, I thought I’d share it with you all (with her permission, of course!).

It all started with this…

Erin with E

We were so lucky to attend a book signing by Mary Kay Andrews in June and it was held at Kudzu Antiques, a fun spot to shop, too!  Erin came across this enormous cardboard-ish letter E and of course we couldn’t resist. 🙂  We even got a little silly on the ride home…

Erin's E buckled

Well, our summer flew by and the E ended up trekking to Athens in its naked cardboard state, sadly.  I should’ve known she’d get it all dolled up before the semester got in full swing.  She had a vision from the get-go to use it as a backdrop for a photo collage.  How’d she do?

Erin's E finished

I LOVE the way this turned out!

She started by selecting which photos she wanted to use, mostly from Facebook.  She loaded them all into a Word document and printed them out in black and white on regular printer paper.  Then she trimmed them and figured out the layout she wanted.

She said she took photos of each section once she had it figured out, because she still needed to do this…

A couple of coats of black craft paint for the background.

She then Mod Podged the photos into place, using the photos she took of the layout as a guideline.  A coat of Mod Podge on top and she was good to go!

I think the E was around $15.  Paint and Mod Podge were probably around $5.  The photos were free.  So for about $20, she’s got an awesome personalized decorative accessory for her apartment.  This is something she will treasure for quite some time.

So fun!  All photos were taken by her on her iPhone.    Now I just need one of the E in it’s place of honor!

Enjoy your day, everyone, and don’t forget to enter my Diamond Candles giveaway HERE.
