Old House Love

I'm an old soul.  Even when it comes to houses.  I look for character, for the story, the history.  I love to read about or visit historic homes, study the architecture and flow of the home way back when.  And if it's been loved on and restored?  I'm in serious like.  One of my dreams has been to find an old house out in the country (away from Atlanta traffic!) and bring it back to life.  Well, with kids to raise and put through college, that's … [Read more...]

Mom Cave Update {Art}

I am mortified at how loooooong it took me to get my Mom Cave artwork up on the walls.  Granted, I was waiting until I finished painting... and then life took over.  And my art work sat.  And sat. Last weekend, I finally bit the bullet, got out the hammer and picture hanging kit and.... voila! Gorgeous, no?  I wish I could spirit away the printer/fax machine, but no can do... El Presidente (aka the hubs) works from home and out of this … [Read more...]

Fresh for Winter

I'm loving my winter decor this year!  Last year, I just couldn't seem to hit it exactly right, though that could have been attributed to being in the midst of a somewhat daunting Refresh the Family Room project.  Truth be told, THAT project is still on-going (still need things like slipcovers and a fresh crop of wall art), but I feel like I am much closer to truly enjoying my space.  Yay for progress!! You've already seen my … [Read more...]

Moss Topiary {DIY}

  This has to be one of the easiest projects I've undertaken and I love the impact it has on my mantle.  I could just see it in my head, but you know how that goes-- seems simple, but ends up being much more complicated?  Not this one. Just a few materials needed: The planter is a discontinued Willow House product that's been sitting in my basement after being overlooked in my sample sale.   Lucky me. :)  I spraypainted the cone … [Read more...]

More Winter Decor {Family Room Pillows}

It goes on and on, doesn't it?  Refreshing decor, I mean.  And I'll be crushed the day I'm no longer inspired to keep changing things up! One of my latest tweaks to the family room (part of a year-long refresh project, I might add) are some fabulous new pillows.   The brown beast is hard sometimes to freshen up, but this year I got incredibly lucky! Kim from Savvy Southern Style was hosting a Pillows by Dezign giveaway back in … [Read more...]

My Winter Mantle

Ahhhh... keeping my winter mantle super simple this year. Sorry for the little ceiling fan pull hanging down!  Yes, {gasp!} we have a ceiling fan in our family room.  :-)  If I want my pretty pillows to stay on the sofa, I had to concede something to the Y chromosomes in the household!  And yes, they are the only ones that ever turn it on.   Here's the low down: Mirror -- Ballard Designs (actually Ballards' Backroom, … [Read more...]

My 2012 Word of the Year

I've spent the last week or so back at work in the classroom and continuing the "de-Christmas-ing" process at home.  I always get the urge to clean and sort and purge at the same time I'm packing up holiday decor, so the process takes longer than it should.  This year took even longer than usual.  I've been reeling {still }from my crazy fall and the holidays and all in all feeling a tad overwhelmed.  I blogged about it here if you want the down … [Read more...]

Shoppin’ on Saturday {A Classy Flea}

I was lucky enough to have some time on Saturday to go prowling around one of my favorite antique haunts, A Classy Flea. I have several things in my own home from this shop and have patronized them for years.  This time around, I was on the hunt for a lamp for my mom and was also doing a little field research for an upcoming project (what a cool place to do research!!).  Lots of goodies to be had... I don't know why I forget about … [Read more...]
