Moss Topiary {DIY}

  This has to be one of the easiest projects I've undertaken and I love the impact it has on my mantle.  I could just see it in my head, but you know how that goes-- seems simple, but ends up being much more complicated?  Not this one. Just a few materials needed: The planter is a discontinued Willow House product that's been sitting in my basement after being overlooked in my sample sale.   Lucky me. :)  I spraypainted the cone … [Read more...]

More Winter Decor {Family Room Pillows}

It goes on and on, doesn't it?  Refreshing decor, I mean.  And I'll be crushed the day I'm no longer inspired to keep changing things up! One of my latest tweaks to the family room (part of a year-long refresh project, I might add) are some fabulous new pillows.   The brown beast is hard sometimes to freshen up, but this year I got incredibly lucky! Kim from Savvy Southern Style was hosting a Pillows by Dezign giveaway back in … [Read more...]

Rearrange for a New Look!

Hi gang, I'm still working on my new calendar (woo hoo-- don't you love a fresh new calendar??) and getting my posts lined up for the weeks ahead, so bear with me a bit for a few days.  :) Today I thought I'd share my mom's living room and a rearrangment we tackled while I was visiting last week.  My parents moved into a brand-spanking-new house last winter and have started from square one with furniture, too.  Daunting, right?  Well, Mom … [Read more...]

Christmas Touches around the House

I hope this finds you relaxing and enjoying the holiday season... finally!  And it's high time I shared some of my Christmas touches around my home.  Confession: I only just finished decorating a few days ago.  I had to say "uncle" with everything going on around here, so I didn't get to some of the projects I had planned.  But maybe next year. In the family room... My beloved wisemen with a berry garland, the shepherd and sheep, … [Read more...]

Favorite Christmas Treat {Reindeer Food}

I started making this treat for family and friends several years ago-- a recipe torn from a magazine in the doctor's office.  I can't even remember which magazine, sadly, but it's favorite to make, share, and enjoy.  We call it reindeer food. :) Here's all you need: The cereal is either corn or rice chex (I just grabbed a bag, so I really don't know what this batch holds. :)) I use the microwave to soften the almond bark-- much easier … [Read more...]

Easy Holiday Centerpiece

Well, $1600 later, my house is sealed and the traps for the unwelcome critters have been set.  Ugh.  I'm trying not to think about it too much, 'cuz it just gives me the willies!  So let's dwell on pretty things and easy projects to get our Christmas spirit in tip top shape.  :) How about a super easy Christmas centerpiece?  Here's what you need: A favorite urn or container Sticks from your yard, spray painted gold (or silver) Florists … [Read more...]

Book Page Christmas Tree {Easy DIY}

Since I've gone all cool gray in the Mom Cave, I decided to put some cool new Christmas decorations on the corner of my desk. I don't normally decorate in there at all-- too much going on usually, but we've pared down furniture and accessories, simplified the function of the space a bit, and I decided a nice simple holiday touch would be fitting! I put together this little grouping on the corner of my desk, where I can enjoy it while I work … [Read more...]

The Stocking Dilemma

I love to change up my holiday decor every year, but this year I went further with a new color palette in my family room than ever before.  Lots of neutrals and metallics with only a few pops of color... keeping it simple.  Because I'm working around these... These are our family stockings... and there are stories there. This is the one that started it all-- my stocking, made by my great-aunts for my first Christmas 44 years ago.  The felt … [Read more...]

Easy Peasy Snowflake Ornament

Happy Friday, friends!  Just in case you're looking to occupy the kids this weekend, today I'm sharing an easy kid-friendly DIY Christmas ornament.  I've done this for several years with my 4 year olds and they adorn the school trees surrounding our Winter Wonderland activities. All you need for this project is silver or sparkly white pipe cleaners, letter beads that spell your child's name, other assorted beads (we use white, clear, … [Read more...]

The To-do List

Don't we all have them?  Especially this time of year?  And how do you hide your gift-buying list from prying teenage eyes??  Let me know if you have the answer to this one! I ordered my Christmas cards (photo, of course) from Shutterfly on Sunday and darn if they didn't arrive YESTERDAY.  Great service, but talk about the pressure!! In the meantime, here's some snippets of what I'm working … [Read more...]
