You know those chunky TV stands you see in all the thrift stores?? Most of us have crossed over to flat screens or wall-mounted TVs making those sad pieces look like the plump boy in the corner at the 7th grade dance. I was in search of a smallish bookcase for a corner of my Mom Cave when I stumbled upon this neglected guy... The size was right, even though he weighs a ton, so I thought I could make him a little more suave to fit into my … [Read more...]
Ten Things Tuesday…
Y'all I am scattered, smothered, and covered. Maybe it's all the short trips out of town on the heels of a crazy month of May. Maybe it's just summertime with a houseful. Maybe I just can't get my act together. When I sat down to write a post for y'all, my brain was all over the place. So I decided to take you down the rabbit hole of my thoughts... 1. I want a vegetable garden. Not sure I want all the work that comes with one, … [Read more...]
Paris Gray Console
Happy Flag Day, friends!! I hope you're showing your patriotism today by displaying our flag! Even my back deck has gotten in on the action... We've got another busy weekend planned, but I sure am enjoying my summertime! This week I finished up that sad little console table with the great legs... remember her? She was a freebie with a corner missing on her drawer... but I figured with a simple makeover and the right price, … [Read more...]
A Little Housekeeping & Outdoor Living Inspiration
Hey there... anyone else tend to let the housekeeping go during busy times?? Please tell me I'm not alone... My default when things are hectic are go into management mode -- i.e. doing the bare minimum to keep things running. So when things slow down a bit I'm faced with a mountain of housekeeping. Filing, sorting, organizing, purging, cleaning. Ugh. It's so -- "un-vacation-y". Such is my world right now... but I did put my blinders … [Read more...]
DIY Burlap Flag Bunting
Good morning, friends! I actually had a fairly relaxing weekend and am ready to enjoy another busy week -- how about you? I spent time with my kids and a sweet neighbor poolside, got workouts in both days, enjoyed catching up on some reading and blogs, and worked on finishing up the console table. Last night we took in two kids for the night while their parents finished up moving out of their house and into an executive apartment while they … [Read more...]
What I’m Reading, Loving, and Working On…
Happy Friday, friends! I've had a good week and it's finally starting to feel like summer... I even slept until 9 a.m. one morning -- total decadence, people. :) So today I'm sharing some "happies" -- just because. Monday night, my daughter and two friends of ours went to a book launch party for one of my favorite local authors, Mary Kay Andrews, and her new book Ladies Night! What a great party in a newly opened antique mall (!) where we … [Read more...]
Guest Room Details: Artwork
Happy Monday! We're back from a fun-filled weekend in Eufaula and gearing up for our next adventure later this week: deep-sea fishing in the Gulf. Did I mention my husband likes to be on the GO when I'm off for the summer???? Anyway, I've got a few days to get some things done around here, including sharing more of my guest room makeover with you. :) Here's a little secret about the artwork in my guest room: I hardly spent a … [Read more...]
Guest Room Detail: Houndstooth Lampshade DIY
It all started with this... Fabulous blue houndstooth gift wrap. I knew it would turn up in my guest room makeover, but I wasn't sure how at first. Then I found the perfect way to inject some modern into my vintage-y guest room when I spotted some plain little 'ole lamp shades at Target. The price was right at $8 each, but this look just wasn't cutting the mustard. Gift wrap to the rescue! Simplest DIY ever. Step … [Read more...]
Easy Photo Graduation Decorations
Yay for summertime! We made it through the big graduation weekend and are now enjoying a few lazy days. :) Our family and friends really enjoyed our celebration, so I wanted to share a few more graduation decoration ideas -- and these were easy to pull together quickly using photos I had on hand! I reused an idea from my daughter's graduation that I shared here using a plate. For the ribbon I used a wire-edged burlap ribbon (a … [Read more...]
