Thoughts for 9/12

Hello, friends... Tomorrow I'll be beach-bound with a bunch of teenagers for a few days (Fall Break), so today is a flurry of wrapping up the week and getting my act together.  If that's possible. :) Yesterday we all remembered the attacks of September 11th and honored those who lost their lives.  Hopefully we all remembered the days AFTER the attack, too -- those days of pulling together, helping our neighbor, digging deep for comfort and … [Read more...]

Feed A Crowd: Taco Night

Hey, y'all -- hope you're having a great week so far!  We're deep into the school schedule and routine... and guess what comes our way next week???  Fall Break. I know.  It's beyond ridiculous!  But I'll take that time "off" (are moms ever really "off"?) to hit the beach for a few days with my youngest and some of his friends (yikes!)... And that started me thinking about what to FEED all those boys while we're on vacay?  I know I can't … [Read more...]

In Case You Missed It {August}

Well, the weekend flew by, didn't it?!  I enjoyed some furniture painting and a little bit of crafting, but mostly got a few things ticked off my to-do list.  And added some more to it!  I realize it's already 8 days into September, but I thought I'd go ahead and recap August here  before I got too much further behind.  :) It seemed August was a month of updates, like my back deck... and my guest room. I also shared a couple of … [Read more...]

Director’s Office Makeover {a Labor of Love}

I can't believe it's September, can you?  It feels like we've already been in school forever, but I'm never quite ready to give up summer.  Plus we inevitably have a heat wave in September that has you bemoaning the fact that the neighborhood pool is closed.  It's one of those weird weather months around here so I'm leery to welcome fall just yet. Thank you so much for your words of encouragement and love for us and my stepson.  It was … [Read more...]

Weekend Recap {Good Stuff}

I had no idea what to expect on our trip to Jacksonville.  I think my husband and I both had some anxiety, having not seen our son in many months. But what I took away was far more than I ever dreamed. I wasn't prepared for his clear-eyed grounded presence. Or for his glow of good health and sober living. Or for the words we heard from others about him... words like we heard from his boss: I have a little boy and I hope he turns out half … [Read more...]

This ‘n That Wednesday (and a Personal Note)

Hi gang!  Hope your week is going well!  I just wanted to pop in and share a few things... I was working on an article for Mohawk Homescapes blog and ran across this image... source I mean -- y'all.  I don't normally fall for black framed mirrors, but holy smokes!!  And I love the way it's hung on all that beautiful molding.  And those gray chevron ottomans with nailhead trim don't look terrible either. :)  Do you ever find an image that … [Read more...]

Back Deck Update: End of Summer

Y'all, we've had so much rain this summer, my back deck is exploding with color!  I thought I'd share, because we've so enjoyed hanging out there these past several weeks.    Just to remind you where we were at the beginning of the summer... Not bad, but now there's this... Amazing what a rug, some colorful pillows, sunshine, rain, and a little fertilizer in the pots can do! I never managed to get my furniture … [Read more...]

Smile! It’s a Guest Room Update

Hello, friends and TGIF!  I'm soooo ready to end this week... it's been a challenging one in every way.  So to give you(and me!) a little Friday "happy" I'm sharing a teensy little guest room update... one that brings a smile to my face every time I walk by this space! I was in HomeGoods a few weeks ago and spotted not one, but TWO of these adorable "smile" pillows!  I knew right away I had to have them for my guest room beds... and the … [Read more...]

Easy Herbal Iced Tea

Ah August.  Probably my least favorite month of the year (no offense, August-lovers!).  I think it's because we're already back in school (too soon), if it's not raining it's so steamy hot you can't do anything outside, and I'm just not quite ready to give up the ghost of summer.   By this time of year, I'm so tired of drinking water... I know I must, I know it's good for me, but it just becomes.... blah. Back in the day in Texas, we used to … [Read more...]

What I’m Reading, Working on, and Loving…

We had a soggy weekend here... Not a total washout, but my hopes of getting poolside were dashed by the to do list and off and on storms and showers. The upside? I got my DIY back on and finished a book. Among other productive things like back to school stuff and getting the college kids somewhat situated. So today's a great day to share some snippets of what's going on... I just finished Save the Date by Mary Kay Andrews. She's become one … [Read more...]
